TVI: Grand Final

Who won?! Who won!? Team Giring did.

Did you watch the last live show of The Voice Indonesia Season 1 on Sunday night? Did you enjoy the show? Who mesmerized you the most? If you’re here to know who won, well, you’ve got the answer above (hint: highlight the blank space). If you’re willing to read more on my thoughts of the finale, read ahead 🙂 Continue reading “TVI: Grand Final”

TVI: Semifinal

Next week is the final, no kidding. Before they finally get to face other team’s representatives at the grand finale, they need to be the last man standing of their own group first. It was either or. Either you or your team member; either you make it or you don’t. The panel, especially Armand, repeatedly said they wouldn’t shower Top 8 with praises anymore, but would they really tell it as it is – drop a critic or two? Continue reading “TVI: Semifinal”

TVI: Live Show week 4

I thought once TVI shrinks to Top 12, three per team, it’ll be every contestant for him/herself. But no, this week we still bid 4 contestants farewell – or ‘see-you-later’? Also, Vina Panduwinata who sat in for Sherina last night was sagely chipping in inputs viewed from a different angle/perspective. The comments from the four coaches have been pretty much the same (one unanimous remark paraphrased into four) and full of flattery that Mama Ina’s presence injected in much-needed refreshment at this stage of the show/competition. TVI: Live Show week 3

Yes, all Top 16 contestants performed live last night and this episode ran for 4 hours. I was pretty tired for the past few days and am still in the middle of typing up my report on Popcorn DVD yet I still set aside time to catch it live on TV like I’ve been doing since TVI’s premiere. The above mentioned excuses might factor into why my eyes and ears found this week’s Live Show draggy. It’s only half hour lengthier than last week’s airtime, yet I was yawning halfway through and had difficulty keeping my interest and focus in check. Continue reading “TVI: Live Show week 3”

TVI: Live Show week 1

Here we are, finally reaching the Live Show stage where the stakes are higher. Now that public gets to vote, hitting all the right keys comes second to whether a contestant’s delivery lives up to expectation, and projecting the greatest vocal comes second to whether one’s performance wows the viewers enough to spur them to actually send in votes. On a big(ger) stage, under gorgeous light works, twelve contenders perform live, and each team lost a member at the end of the day. Continue reading “TVI: Live Show week 1”

TVI: The (last) Battle week 5

How weird is that I’d always thought that there’d be two more battle weeks and turned out this episode was the last? Either I’ve miscalculated it (which is doubtful) or I’ve simply remembered it wrongly (which is much more likely). Either way’s fine since interest fizzled out last week and this means we’ll get (to) the Live Show next week(?)(!) Ooh, that’s gotta be interesting.

1)    Team Giring: Lilian VS Syam VS Thomas <One Love – Bob Marley>
(Called Trio Ambisi. Energy pumped high to the ceiling. It was a fun, entertaining performance Continue reading “TVI: The (last) Battle week 5”

TVI: The Battle week 4

An arguably weak week compared to the previous three. This episode’s on-ring executions lacked luster. On a bright note, however, this means I don’t have to pull an all-nighter and put this up in the wee hour. Let’s get it done and over with.

1)    Team Glenn: Belia VS Gilbert <Cinta dan sayang – Matthew Sayersz>
(I always feel it’s easier to root for the girl in male-female combo because girl’s higher pitch range naturally stands out and is more perceptible during harmonization. Even more so when the tone is clear and easy on the ears like Belia’s. Continue reading “TVI: The Battle week 4”

TVI: The Battle week 3

1)    Team Armand: Sefrain VS Ferdinand <Bunga – /rif>
(“Apa adanya, mengalir, tidak dibuat-buat.” Well said, well said, Glenn. Karena seperti itulah kolaborasi Sefrain-Ferdinand di babak ini. Mereka tahu di mana harus menempatkan suara sehingga menghasilkan harmonisasi yg melebur dan nyaman di telinga. Hasilnya? Hitherto the best harmony in the competition Continue reading “TVI: The Battle week 3”

TVI: The Battle week 2

Babak kolaborasi berbalut persaingan kembali dihadirkan di minggu kedua The Battle. Berikut recap-nya:

1)    Team Glenn: Novan VS Saptoto <Jemu – Gigi>
(“Topi koboi ketemu blangkon.” Dua gaya yg khas dan cukup kontras. Berdiri di balik gitarnya, Novan anteng dan ga banyak gaya. Justru Toto yg berkostum tradisional Jawa lengkap dengan kerisnya yg jejingkrakan di panggung. Continue reading “TVI: The Battle week 2”
