[Album] Meraih Bintang

Apakah kini orang-orang masih membeli kepingan CD lagu penyanyi favorit? Soalnya udah jarang ngeliat iklan yg berbunyi “Album Out Now” atau “Available in Stores” dan rasanya di mall-mall udah jarang kutemui adanya toko kaset/CD seperti di akhir 90-an awal 2000-an (zaman gue remaja =p)—kalaupun ada tak lagi dipadati pengunjung.

Toko CD masih menjamur di negara tetangga—and the reason I come by to one of the stores is mostly to check out earphones, if not to merely browse through and see what’s on. Bahkan dengan berkembangan teknologi touchpad (=tablet mini?), buku pun dibaca lewat layar monitor—which arguably a good thing since it is convenient, promotes paperless society (as we all know, paper comes from trees and best-selling books only contribute to lumbering more and more trees), and spares us from carrying dozens of books on our back. Even reality shows such as American Idol push people to buy the song(s) on iTunes (read: online purchasing) while music producers here thrive on RBT (=ring back tone = nada sambung pribadi) activation. Hardsell as it is, a song can reap billions of rupiah from RBT downloads alone. The trend may have shifted since an artist now receives platinum awards based on RBT sales, not album sales anymore.

Only after much effort of replaying the tracks several times do I start to appreciate Jangan pernah and Sedari dulu, but even they don’t come close to the highly buzzed Cinta & Benci. My prediction: they would either use Cukup tak lagi to repeat Kamu yang pertama’s success or throw either of these two instead as the second single.

Terinspirasi kah? Karena dari semua single Geisha yg kudengar, aku tak mengangkap kesan bahwa ia merujuk atau memiliki kesamaan genre bermusik seperti Peterpan—moreover I could portray Ariel substituted Momo’s vocals and he’d fit in perfectly though Ariel’s verbiages would be far more figurative and poetical than these.

Apart from those 4 tracks, Meraih Bintang isn’t to my liking—ga tau gimana mereka berencana untuk “meraih bintang” dengan lagu-lagu seperti ini. Terlalu mellow, cengeng, dan mengiba *uhuk!* seperti d’Masiv *uhuk!*. Tapi kembali ke selera masing-masing sih ya. I don’t stand for the whole nation’s music preferences as my taste somewhat deviates from the norm :s

For example, I don’t buy the hype people have around (emerging) singers/groups when their music isn’t really original and their songs more of sapless with platitudinal, overused wordses. Most of them don’t project a distinctive identity, musical sense, or style yet people are crazy about them, literally. They’re simply not my cup of tea, hands down.

From the beginning I LOVE Momo’s nice timbre—even my dad seconds this (lol). Nonetheless she needs good songs to flaunt her quality. Too bad this album doesn’t fully support her on that.

*) This is the thing I’ve so long wanted to dissect. What’s with the word anyway? Never heard of such words before: download/upload diartikan sebagai unduh/unggah. (more, what’s with “jejaring sosial”?? And yes, I checked “jejaring” on my old thick KBBI, it’s not inside). Cuz frankly they’re not user-friendly. They’re confusing enough to use that some people who appeared on TV flip-flopped the two; many said “unduh” when they clearly meant “upload” and vice versa.

Why people like to complicate things? Why can’t they leave it as it is? Untung software (=piranti lunak) macam Microsoft Office fungsi-fungsinya ga diterjemahkan seperti yg mantan teman kampus yg berasal dari China alami di tempat asalnya—she thus found difficulty in using the “English-version” commands. Biar kesannya ga katro-katro amat gitu nanti kalau berhubungan dengan dunia tanpa batas di luar sana, hehehe…

**) That makes me miss Peterpan even more. Sigh. Is it improper for me to object media’s renaming the group “Peterporn” while i utterly back up the idea of bashing Paripurna by calling it “Pariporno”? I believe i’m not the only one on this. I disapprove of the frontman’s carefree life but for whatever’s sake, it is his life and he has downright freedom to do whatever he wants with his own life. No one can rightfully judge his personal life although that doesn’t rectify his wrongdoings. The blame should be more on the leakers since I believe no stars would consent to demoralize themselves in public and get themselves into trouble especially when a long-awaited, much-anticipated album is coming up. Let me stop here before someone’d think i’m a hardcore withstander of Ariel…
